Public exposure of a leader’s sin is a mercy to him (a severe one, but a mercy nonetheless). The ones who expose him are the ones who say, “I will love you enough to spare you more guilt before God, as much as I can.” Simultaneously this wins some justice for the ones he’s sinned against. This is a little window into the curious relationship between mercy and justice.
