When someone asks you to show “mercy” to a man who has abused his position, ask them what they believe mercy is.

Abusing power that flows from one’s position in a church is grievous sin that is disqualifying. Abuse of power shows that power has become akin to an addictive drug. Is it mercy to allow a man to remain where he will continue to have access to his drug of choice and continue to pile up sins for the judgment? Or is it mercy to remove him from that position that he might truly repent and know the depths of the true mercy of God?
