….Real repentance is born of love and care for the other. It is a relational exchange both with the Lord and with one another. It is the fruit of our vow to love the Lord, our God, with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. It is powerful when it is real, and devastating when it’s not. Real repentance requires transparency. It requires ownership and unequivocal acknowledgement of the wrong done. It asks “what do I need to do to make this right?” without qualification or limitation. It is usually accompanied by great sorrow for the harm inflicted on the other. And it always comes with a commitment to grow and change. It’s almost never easy, but always worth it in the end….
