They shall build up the ancient ruins;
they shall raise up the former devastations;
they shall repair the ruined cities,
the devastations of many generations. Is. 61:4
“They” were previously referred to as poor [afflicted, humble, oppressed], broken-hearted, captive, bound, and in mourning, words that also describe people who have experienced spiritual abuse. (Is. 61:1-2) They were given beauty for their ashes, joy instead of mourning, and a spirit of praise instead of a spirit of heaviness. (v. 3) Those who have been harmed and restored to wholeness are the ones who will repair and rebuild. What do you make of that?
